The Shorty Interview
with upside down grin
What's your best tweet?
There's an awkward air when the fruits of your labor turn out to be vegetables.
What are six things you could never do without?
Chapstick, Wi-Fi, Alone Time, Bubble Tea, Summer, People.
How do you use Twitter in your professional life?
I use it for news. It's nice not having to play oversized origami with the paper anymore.
What's your favorite Twitter app?
I'm old fashioned. I prefer typing in the website on my browser and signing in by candle light. Like I said, I'm old fashioned.
Twitter or Facebook?
Facebook. Because Mark Zuckerberg is holding a gun to my head and somebody, please, help! Help! Also, I like adding commentary to my posts.
What was the funniest trend you've seen?
Can't remember, so I'll just tell you my favorite dessert is a root beer float with whipped cream.
What feature should Twitter add?
The Arena. It would be a community where two people live-tweet a 140-character freestyle battle for the rest of the viewing twittersphere.
Who do you wish had a Twitter feed but doesn't?
My little brother. He'd almost always have something interesting to say.
What are some words or phrases you refuse to shorten for brevity?
Is there someone you want to follow you who doesn't already? If so, who?
If Conan followed me, that would be an honor.
Have you ever unfollowed someone? Who and why?
Yes. I'll never forget her: SeXyB00taY22. She didn't have a webcam at all. Just computer viruses.
Why should we vote for you?
Because you know, deep down, you'll be giving exposure to something that others will enjoy.
Terms you wish would start trending on Twitter right now?
upside down grin. That would be a nice one. Alien contact made. That would be cool, too.
What's the most interesting connection you've made through Twitter?
I actually got my current full-time job by meeting the co-founder of my company on Twitter. I'm celebrating two years on Feb 8, 2012.
Hashtag you created that you wish everyone used?
#i'msorrybabypleaseicanchangejustgivemeachanceipromise I swear, it works!
How do you make your tweets unique?
What inspires you to tweet?
People. I love the idea of making someone smile, think, or plain feel anything. There's power in words, no matter how brief.
Ever get called out for tweeting too much?
Nope. But promoting myself for nominations might change that.
140 characters of advice for a new user?
Plan as much as possible. Then be reckless as anything.
How long can you go without a tweet?
24 hours. I promised to give new content 5 times a week, monday through friday. So that's the most I can stay away.
What question are we not asking here that we should?
You haven't asked why I do what I do. You never asked for the purpose. What drives someone to keep making original content for free?
How do you imagine Twitter changing?
In the future, Twitter will take a more tangible approach, giving us blue robotic birds, a la the owls of Harry Potter, to carry our tweets.
Who do you admire most for his or her use of Twitter?
@edwardboches Here's a guy who jumped head first into something he didn't understand and then became an advocate for understanding.
Who is the funniest person on Twitter that you follow?
I don't follow him, but I see retweets from Conan that are always great.
What is one of the biggest misconceptions of Twitter?
That it was left here for us by aliens. What? You haven't heard that one?
Why should people follow you?
I'll give them something to smile about. Five days a week, anyway. They'll have to figure out Saturday and Sunday on their own.
Can you name some one-of-a-kind Twitter accounts that you follow?
@penward is one of my favorites. He's just a funny dude and always posting stuff that makes you grin.
How do you decide what to tweet?
If I laugh at it. I mostly just post back to my site. The captions on my illustrations are almost tweets themselves, given their length.
Why'd you start tweeting?
It seemed like a good idea at the time, I swear. Also, I like how it lets me eavesdrop on people and say hello at just the right moment.
Has Twitter changed your life? If yes, how?
It essentially lead me to the job I have now.
What do you wish people would do more of on Twitter?
I would love to see more platform-driven ideas, like the exquisite corpse story of Tim Burton. We need more fun like that.
How will the world change in the next year?
You asked the right guy, because I know this one. Just ask me again at the end of next year.
What are some big Twitter faux pas?
Giving a detailed, flush-by-flush account of your bathroom break. It's called Twitter, not Shitter.
What will the world be like 10 years from now?
Better, and worse. That's the way it's always been. We advance, but we also advance into new problems we'll have to solve.
