The Shorty Interview
with Kevin Richardson
What's your best tweet?
They must each be my best- "To be healthy you must first learn to be free. Free from following the crowd & free from the need to conform."
What are six things you could never do without?
My family, my friends. That's really it. I don't need much.
How do you use Twitter in your professional life?
It helps me reach out to a range of people and let them know my philosophy on health and fitness which in turn increases my client base.
What's your favorite Twitter app?
Hootsuite. I couldn't live without it.
Twitter or Facebook?
I would say Twitter, but I do love my Facebook family as well.
What was the funniest trend you've seen?
My Funny Friday Tweets- who knew I was funny?
Who do you wish had a Twitter feed but doesn't?
My two year old son- that would help me figure out what he's thinking a little better!
What are some words or phrases you refuse to shorten for brevity?
I had a pretty British colonial education and I majored in literature so I NEVER abbreviate. It makes tweeting harder though.
Have you ever unfollowed someone? Who and why?
I unfollow anyone hawking supplements.
Why should we vote for you?
Because as President I'll fix the obesity problem! Seriously, though- it would help me reach more people with unbiased fitness information.
What's the most interesting connection you've made through Twitter?
Hard one to answer as I have met so many wonderful people from all over the world that have become truly solid friends.
Hashtag you created that you wish everyone used?
How do you make your tweets unique?
I spend the better part of an hour writing each one and I think deeply about what can I say to inform, motivate or inspire.
What inspires you to tweet?
The lack of unbiased health & fitness information out there & the number of people who don't believe they have what it takes to get in shape.
Ever get called out for tweeting too much?
Thankfully not. If I did I would stop as I would be doing it for myself and not as a service to others.
140 characters of advice for a new user?
Say more by saying less.
How long can you go without a tweet?
About 8 hours- then the tremors start...
What question are we not asking here that we should?
Why do I spend hours agonizing over trying to say something useful to so many people everyday?
How do you imagine Twitter changing?
I see it being taken more seriously as a real tool for not so much learning what's going on, but understanding how others see it.
What is one of the biggest misconceptions of Twitter?
That is is a frivolous network where people talk about what they had for lunch.
Why should people follow you?
Because I'll do my best to inspire you, educate you, help you make better decisions about your own health and make you laugh on Fridays!
How do you decide what to tweet?
I don't. I listen to people- my clients, my followers, people who email me and try to understand what I can say to address their concerns.
Why'd you start tweeting?
I had a lot of help over the years getting to where I am as a successful trainer and bodybuilder- this is my way of giving back.
Has Twitter changed your life? If yes, how?
It has put my health and fitness philosophy in front of thousands and has helped me find a real value in what I do for a living.
What do you wish people would do more of on Twitter?
Keep on using it as an invaluable tool to learn more about the world around them!
What are some big Twitter faux pas?
My senior moment typos like 'diet eating well will not get you a six pack'- still reeling from that one! I need an editor!
What will the world be like 10 years from now?
I couldn't say, but I will do my part to try and make it a better one.
